3D Laser Scanning – Documentation Flow

Step 1 – 3D Laser Scanning

Using the Latest FARO Focus 3D Laser scanner; boilers, piping, tanks and all related data is captured as millions of Point cloud with high accuracy and in-depth detail.

Step 2 – Registration & Clean Up

Raw scans are processed for a downstream workflow using FARO Scene software.

Step 3 – Bentley Pointools

Processed scans imported into Bentley Pointools to reduce the large Point cloud into a usable format.

Step 4 – Bentley Plant Design Suit

Point cloud data, imported and design of the entire plant is done in Bentley suite of software to ISO standards, clash detection, data management, collaborative plant engineering, etc.

Summary

  1. Laser Scanning The information to be documented is captured using a FARO Focus 3D Laser Scanner.
  2. Registration Raw scans captured using FARO Focus is Registered using FARO Scene software and the resulting Point cloud is cleaned up for further data processing.
  3. Size reduction Heavy point cloud file is sampled to make it usable for downstream processing.
  4. Deliverables Point cloud data is imported into Bentley plant design suite software’s to produce deliverables in 3D and 2D Schematic Diagrams, PI Diagrams, Equipment list, etc
